Bayern Munich endured a stressful Saturday off the pitch as the deal to sign Nicolas Jackson is close to collapsing. Things were not exactly straightforward for the team on the pitch as they made things difficult for them in a 3-2 win against Augsburg.

Vincent Kompany fielded the same starting XI that played against RB Leipzig on matchday one of the Bundesliga. There is no need to tweak the team as it has looked balanced in the first month of the season.

Bayern started the game positively as they created a big chance in the first minute. Michael Olise played a delightful pass across the goal only for Luis Diaz to miss the chance. The Colombian couldn’t sort out his feet quickly to bury the chance.

The visitors piled on the pressure as they consistently created half-chances and also troubled Augsburg with their pressing. They eventually got the reward in the 27th minute. Harry Kane delivered a delightful cross in the box, which was nodded home from close range by Serge Gnabry. Considering the way he has started the season, it was a matter of time for Gnabry to get on the scoresheet.

Die Roten gave Augsburg no breathing space after breaking the deadlock. They created chances through set-pieces and intense pressing. Bayern eventually doubled their lead at the stroke of the half-time whistle. Michael Olise played a lovely pass to find the underlapping run of Konrad Laimer. The Austrian showed composure by squaring the ball to Luis Diaz. The Colombian forward bundled the ball into the net to make it 2-0 going into the half-time break.

Eventful second half highlighted Bayern’s weakness

The defending champions got off to a flying start in the second half. Harry Kane slipped the ball to Olise after dropping deep to receive the pass. The French forward showed great composure by hammering the ball past the goalkeeper to triple Die Roten’s lead.

At this point, it looked like Bayern had sealed all three points. However, a couple of defensive lapses from the team allowed Augsburg to get back in the game with more than 15 minutes left in the game. For the second game this week, Die Roten have given the opposition a sniff in the game by conceding two quick goals.

Bayern had to dig deep and soak up the pressure from the hosts to get all three points. Diaz had a big chance to put the game to bed in the final minutes of the game, but the Colombian couldn’t find the back of the net. The visitors saw out the game and made sure they have collected maximum points after two matchdays.

Courtesy of the win against Augsburg, Bayern go into the international with a 100%-win record in the first month of the season. Vincent Kompany will be pleased with the way his men have started the campaign, but there is still a lot of scope for improvement.
