Midway through June, Bayern Munich has yet to complete a transfer for a much-needed left-winger. The board is aware that the club will have to spend between €60 million and €100 million to sign the desired player. Max Eberl is working hard to complete the transfers as soon as possible.

Yet, the German record champion is facing tough barricades in pursuing their top priorities. Bayern was hit with a devastating blow when the number-one choice, Nico Williams, was reported to be more into a move to Barcelona. Meanwhile, Bradley Barcola does not appear likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain, as the reigning Champions League winner views him as an important piece. With the ideal targets falling on the improbable side, Bayern may return to AC Milan's Rafael Leao.

According to Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern held a meeting with Leao's camp in Munich. Die Roten is still monitoring his situation, but no further talks have been held. The reason for such suspension is that the club has many concerns about his traits, especially on the defensive end of the spectrum. Despite being one of the most explosive dribblers and top chance creators, the Portuguese international is often caught lacking on defense. His poor work rate off the ball is a major concern, particularly in a system that revolves around high-intensity pressing, Vincent Kompany is building at Bayern.

AC Milan eager to keep hold of Leao

Milan head coach Max Allegri views Rafael Leao as an important piece in the squad. Rossoneri would be more reluctant to part ways with Leao. However, according to Matteo Moretto, Milan does not have any untouchable players, including Leao, which means he can still leave if the price is right. Bayern assume that the total package for this transfer may lie around €75 million to €85 million, including add-ons.

The board will only make the final verdict for Rafael Leao in late June/early July. For the time being, Bayern will focus on the FIFA Club World Cup as well as waiting on whether Nico Williams and Bradley Barcola may be interested in a move.

On the flip side, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry are open to staying at Bayern. Both players feel satisfied with their current role at the club. Coman would only consider leaving if the destination provides a substantial financial offer or a prospective project. On a bright note, at least there are still players who can play on the left wing for Bayern.
