Bayern Munich are not prioritising a central defender in the summer at this point. However, things can change quickly if one of Kim Min-jae or Hiroki Ito ends up leaving the club. Bayern are open to listening to offers for both defenders.
Apart from departures, good market opportunities can also tempt Bayern to improve their options in the heart of the defense. The recent developments at Liverpool can certainly offer Die Roten an exciting market opportunity to sign a center-back
According to L’Equipe (via GFFN), Bayern are one of the clubs interested in signing Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool. Talks between Konate and Liverpool for a new deal have broken down. The French defender is set to leave the Merseyside club on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30.
Konate had previously suggested that he would be staying at Liverpool. However, multiple reports in England have confirmed that the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement on wages for the new deal.
Bayern face significant competition for Konate
Signing Konate will not be a straightforward deal for Bayern as they face significant competition from top European clubs. The report from L’Equipe confirmed that Chelsea and Real Madrid have also shown interest in the French defender.
Real Madrid have been previously linked with Konate, but they cooled their interest when he was close to signing a new contract at Liverpool. The Spanish club needs to sign a new center-back to replace David Alaba.
Chelsea want to add experience to their team. With a good amount of experience in the Premier League, Konate becomes an attractive signing for the Blues. However, the lack of European football makes a move to Chelsea less favourable for the 27-year-old center-back.
A move to Bayern would be great for Konate. He has already excelled in the Bundesliga during his time at RB Leipzig. He will need no time to adapt to the Bundesliga and can hit the ground running. After winning several trophies with Liverpool, Konate also brings the winning mentality. The French international is in his prime, which makes him a good short to medium-term signing.
Considering the quality and experience of Konate, it is certainly a move Bayern should explore. They have already set the price for Hiroki Ito at €20 million. A departure for the Japanese defender can open up the possibility of Konate playing in the Bavarian colours next season.
