Bayern Munich are in the defining phase of their pursuit of Nico Williams to strengthen the attack this summer. The Spanish winger is a top target for Bayern after missing out on Florian Wirtz. However, there is no guarantee that Williams will end up in Bavaria.
Die Roten are facing stiff competition from FC Barcelona for Williams. According to The Athletic, Chelsea and Arsenal have cooled interest in the Spanish winger. FC Barcelona remain in talks with Williams over personal terms, while Bayern have already made a contract offer to the winger. The Bundesliga champions are open to making another contract offer to convince Williams.
Bayern are currently behind Barcelona in the pecking order for Williams. The 22-year-old winger is giving preference to Barcelona and is ready to agree to a lower salary to complete the move. However, Die Roten are not giving up just yet and are ready to offer him a competitive salary. It was previously reported that he will look for €20 million per year to seal a move to Munich.
The transfer fee is not a concern for the interested clubs since there is a release clause worth €60 million in the winger’s contract. Athletic Bilbao are also open to offering him a bumper deal if he decides to stay in Munich.
Bayern face significant challenge with multiple attacking transfer targets
Strengthening the attack is going to be a significant challenge for Max Eberl and Christoph Freund at Bayern. The Bavarian club’s other targets are also difficult to sign for different reasons.
The Bundesliga champions have an interest in PSG’s Bradley Barcola. The French winger was in fine form for PSG last season. It looks like an unrealistic task of getting Barcola out of PSG. The French forward is not agitating for a move, while the European champions consider him part of their long-term targets.
Regardless of the outcome of their pursuits for Barcola and Williams, Bayern will have ample amount of time to look at other targets. With the confirmed departures of Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller, they certainly need at least one addition in the attack to compete on all fronts.
Kingsley Coman is also facing an uncertain future in Munich. If the French winger ends up leaving Bavaria, Bayern will need at least two new attacking players. It is a defining summer for Eberl and Freund as they look to build on the momentum created by Kompany in his debut season. They fell short in the Champions League and DFB-Pokal this season. Die Roten need to get better to make sure they retain the Bundesliga title and go all the way in the cup competitions.
