Bayern Munich chiefs are reportedly hoping to find a new club for Alexander Nubel sooner rather than later.

Bayern Munich will not have to dip into the transfer market to sign a goalkeeper this summer as they resolved the futures of Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich before the end of the season. The two senior goalkeepers have signed new one-year contracts with Bayern.

Neuer has been in decent form this season, which has also led to a U-turn on international retirement ahead of next month’s World Cup. He will be the number one next season, but his game time will be managed as Jonas Urbig continues to develop into a good goalkeeper. The former FC Koln shot-stopper has been earmarked as Neuer’s long-term successor by Bayern chiefs.

Meanwhile, Sven Ulreich will continue to be the third-choice goalkeeper in the squad. He will play an important role in training and remains a popular senior player in the dressing room.

With the three goalkeeping positions sorted for the next season, Bayern Munich have to find a new destination for Alexander Nubel. After a successful three-year loan spell at VfB Stuttgart, Nubel returns to Bayern this summer.

Bayern chiefs have already confirmed that Nubel will not feature in the club’s long-term plans. They are ready to part ways with the former Schalke goalkeeper.

Three European clubs are interested in Nubel

According to Ran Sport (via iMiaSanMia), three European clubs have shown concrete interest in Alexander Nubel. The Bundesliga champions want to find a suitor sooner rather than later, but the goalkeeper’s wage demands are a big stumbling block for a transfer.

Nubel signed a new contract at Bayern in 2024, which saw his wages close to €11 million. His current deal at Bayern doesn’t expire until 2030. Stuttgart cannot afford to sign Nubel on a permanent deal. It remains to be seen if they are open to signing him on another loan deal.

In an ideal scenario, Bayern will hope Premier League clubs get involved in signing Nubel. The English clubs can pay a good salary for Nubel.

Offering Nubel a new contract two years ago looked like a sensible decision at that time since he was excelling at Stuttgart. He has done well in the last two seasons, but Bayern already have a long-term replacement for Neuer in Urbig. Moreover, Nubel is not keen on being a number two.

With Nubel part of Germany’s World Cup squad, his transfer away from Bayern will happen later in the transfer window. Die Roten may look to subsidise the transfer fee to ensure they get his big salary off the wage bill.
