Bayern Munich prioritize a loan signing before end of transfer window

Bayern Munich are specifically focusing on getting a forward on loan rather than a permanent transfer after failing to sign Nick Woltemade.

With less than 10 days left in the summer transfer window, Bayern Munich still need one more signing to strengthen the attack. They have parted ways with Paul Wanner and Kingsley Coman in the last two weeks on permanent transfer. Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané have also left Bayern this summer.

The defending Bundesliga champions have signed Luis Diaz from Liverpool to strengthen Vincent Kompany’s options in the attack. After the departure of Coman, Bayern want another forward to give Kompany ample number of forwards to challenge on all fronts.

VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade was Bayern’s top target for the second attacking signing this summer. However, Die Roten couldn’t reach an agreement with Stuttgart for a transfer. The Bavarian had three bids rejected for the German striker. He is certainly a player to watch out for Bayern in the future transfer windows.

After missing out on Woltemade, it looks like Bayern have no intention of signing a forward on a permanent deal. While talking to Sky Sports on Thursday, Director of Sport Max Eberl admitted that Bayern are only planning to sign a forward on a loan deal.

"The transfer window is still open. We still have work to do because we don't have enough depth in attack to compete in all three competitions with success. We've been tasked with looking for a player on loan, which is not easy. We're trying to find a good and creative solution. Other than that, the team is well equipped."

Bayern tried to get Christopher Nkunku on a loan deal from Chelsea in the last few days. However, the London-based club has no intention of sanctioning a loan exit for Nkunku. The Bavarian club remains in talks with Chelsea. As things stand, a move for Nkunku is looking unlikely.

Die Roten will explore other options as suggested by Max Eberl, but their ideal candidate for a loan deal remains Nkunku.

Is Bayern looking to save money for big spending next summer?

Bayern have not been one of the heavy spenders in Europe this summer. They signed Jonathan Tah and Tom Bischof on free transfers. The fee for Luis Diaz was close to €70 million.

The Bavarian club has recouped a significant portion of the fee paid for Diaz through the departures of Kingsley Coman (€35 million) and Paul Wanner (€15 million). They have also trimmed the wage bill after the departures of Muller and Sane on free transfer. Bayern had a big budget for this summer since they were very keen on signing Florian Wirtz, who eventually moved to Liverpool for over €100 million.

Considering the fact that Bayern didn’t spend in January and the situation around the incomings and outgoings this summer, it does look like the club wants to save money this summer for the future windows, as they missed out on several first-choice targets. It will be intriguing to see who they eventually end up signing on a loan deal before the deadline day.
