Bayern Munich: Potential rationale behind a quiet summer transfer window

Keeping powder dry and likely departures at end of current season

As previously stated, Bayern’s squad is relatively thin. However, when Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Ito return from long-term injuries, the squad would be well-balanced. All three are projected to be back in action by January at the latest. It’s a big ‘if’, but if the injury gods could spare the team from heartache this season, and if Jackson and Karl can perform at a high level during the Hindrunde, then Bayern should be in a strong place for the second half of the season.

Having said that, Bayern could still have a successful season and then be prepared to make a big splash in next summer’s transfer window. With Leon Goretzka, Raphael Guerreiro, Manuel Neuer, and Serge Gnabry all on expiring contracts that are unlikely to be renewed at the end of the season, cash would be freed up for salaries of new players. Next summer, the possible sales of players such as Kim Min-jae, Sacha Boey, and even João Palhinha, currently on loan at Tottenham, could fund key additions to the squad.
