Bayern Munich faced a setback in the transfer market last week as top target Anthony Gordon left Newcastle United to join FC Barcelona. The English forward was heavily linked with a move to Bayern over the last couple of months. Die Roten had agreed personal terms with Gordon, but they couldn’t reach an agreement over the transfer fee with Newcastle United.

Barcelona swooped in last week and quickly sealed the deal. Gordon underwent his medical before going to the USA with the England squad for the World Cup.

Bayern have to look at alternatives to strengthen the attack. They are primarily looking for a forward who can play on the left flank since Luis Diaz is the only natural left-sided forward in the squad. Die Roten have identified the next transfer target after missing out on Gordon.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern have started talks to sign Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven. The Moroccan forward is open to joining Die Roten, so personal terms will not be a problem. Bayern have initiated negotiations with PSV to sign the forward sooner rather than later.

Sky Sports in Germany and ED in Eindhoven have also confirmed Bayern’s interest in Saibari. The Bundesliga champions have already held talks with the Moroccan’s representatives regarding a summer move to Munich.

Saibari’s versatility bodes well for Bayern

The 25-year-old forward has been one of the best players in Eredivisie this season.  Saibari scored 18 goals for PSV across all competitions and chipped in with eight assists.

Apart from his exploits in the final third, Saibari’s versatility will be a big bonus for Bayern. He can play as a number ten and on the left side of a front three. He has also played in deeper positions for PSV during this season. The Moroccan will give Vincent Kompany a good deal of tactical flexibility next season if the deal materializes.

PSV Eindhoven are in a strong position to negotiate a high fee for Saibari. The Moroccan forward’s current deal with the Dutch club expires in 2029. It does look like Bayern will have to pay a fee close to €50-60 million to convince PSV to part ways with Saibari. The Bavarian club will bank on the player’s will to negotiate down PSV’s transfer demands.

Bayern will hope to reach an agreement in the coming days as Saibari is set to feature in the World Cup for Morocco. It would be ideal to get the deal done to ensure his price doesn’t go up and other clubs come in on the back of a good World Cup.
