Bayern Munich focused on completing internal transfers during the winter transfer window. Internal transfers are effectively extending the contracts of key players. The Bavarian club managed to achieve this by agreeing new contracts for Serge Gnabry and Dayot Upamecano. Bayern are now targeting the renewal of Konrad Laimer and Harry Kane in the next few months as the duo’s contracts end in 2027.
The record Bundesliga champions are pleased with the way they have conducted their business over the last 12 months. They significantly trimmed the wage bill by parting ways with senior players and bought adequate replacements for them. Bayern have also extended contracts of key players like Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, and, most recently, Dayot Upamecano.
In the last summer transfer window, Bayern focused on quality over quantity. Despite suffering multiple setbacks in the market, they managed to sign players who have hit the ground running.
According to Sport1, Bayern are planning to maintain a calm approach going forward in the summer transfer window. The club chiefs have no plans to undertake a squad overhaul or engage in extravagant spending.
With the way Kompany’s men have performed this season, Bayern chiefs believe a small and competitive squad can continue to yield results. From a financial perspective, Bayern will not get the revenue this summer like last year since there is no Club World Cup at the end of the campaign. Die Roten have to be smart with their business to ensure they maintain a balance between financial sustainability and sporting success.
Bayern will need a player in midfield, defense and attack in the summer
The needs for the upcoming summer at Bayern will be across the three outfield areas of the squad. Die Roten will have to sign a full-back since Sacha Boey and Raphael Guerreiro will leave Munich on permanent deals. They may have to dip into the transfer market to sign a center-back if Kim Min-jae ends up leaving the club.
In the center of the park, Bayern will have to sign a replacement for Leon Goretzka. The German midfielder will leave Die Roten at the end of the season on a free transfer. Die Roten are looking at younger midfielders to replace Goretzka.
Bayern are spoilt for options in the attack, but they need another player on the left flank as a deputy for Diaz. Die Roten need at least three players in the summer. However, they are not going to chase stars and pay over the odds.
