Bayern Munich are considering several options to strengthen their attack in the summer. Die Roten want to bring the average age of the attack. After witnessing the success of Michael Olise this season, Bayern’s vision to get young attacking players is further emboldened.
The Bavarian club also wants to add a backup striker. Since the number nine position is not a priority, Die Roten will look for a cheap deal. Lille’s Jonathan David was one of the potential targets that could provide cover for Harry Kane.
Bayern chiefs have been admirers of David, as reported by several German media outlets during the first half of the season. However, it does look like there is a change of plans regarding a potential move for David.
According to Bild’s Christian Falk and Tobi Altschaffl (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern have cooled their interest in Jonathan David. The record Bundesliga champions no longer feel that David would be the ideal fit for their plans for the attack in the summer.
The Canadian striker recently admitted that La Liga has always been the league he wanted to play in. It remains to be seen if the big three of La Liga are interested in the versatile forward. Meanwhile, the Premier League clubs have also shown interest in David.
Bayern looking at young German strikers
In terms of options for the number nine role, Bayern are reportedly interested in two young German forwards. Mainz striker Jonathan Burkardt is one of the strikers Die Roten are keeping a close eye on, as he has excelled in the Bundesliga this season. He was also part of the German national team during the international break.
Stuttgart’s U-21 German striker Nick Woltemade is also being closely followed by Bayern this season. He has not played consistently in the Bundesliga but still managed to score at a decent rate. The striker coming in the summer will have to be content with less game time for at least the next couple of seasons since Kane is showing no signs of slowing down.
In terms of other attacking transfer targets, Bayern have concrete interest in Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens. Southampton winger Tyler Dibbling also has admirers at Bayern. One of these three players is likely to be the signing for Bayern to strengthen the wide positions, while Florian Wirtz remains the top target for the Bavarian giants. Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane, and Thomas Muller could leave to make space for new players in the attack.
