After getting back to winning ways in the Bundesliga against Hoffenheim on Sunday, Bayern Munich turn their attention to the DFB Pokal on Wednesday. It is a big game for Bayern, as they have struggled in the German Cup competition over the last few seasons.
The Bavarian club will come up against DFB Pokal specialists, RB Leipzig, in the quarter-final of the competition. Leipzig have reached the semi-final stage five out of the last six DFB Pokal. They are yet to suffer a defeat in the quarter-final stage of the competition.
Meanwhile, Die Roten have not won the DFB Pokal since winning during the treble campaign in 2020. Bayern have found unique ways of losing games over the last few years, which further amplifies the importance of Wednesday evening’s clash.
Bayern have the complete squad available for the game against RB Leipzig. It is a very rare situation over the last few years when a head coach at Bayern has an entire squad fit for a big game.
Vincent Kompany had to leave out Kim Min-jae from the squad for the game against Hoffenheim since all the places on the bench were filled. The reports in Germany on Wednesday suggest Nicolas Jackson will be the player to miss out on the matchday squad against RB Leipzig.

Kompany made early substitutes against Hoffenheim to rest his key players ahead of the big game against RB Leipzig. The Belgian coach will field his strongest team against Leipzig.
Bayern need a result and a convincing performance against Leipzig
After playing a game every 3-4 days since the turn of the year, fatigue has seeped into Bayern’s team. Barring the win against Hoffenheim, the last few games have seen Die Roten struggle defensively and lose concentration out of possession. Even Hoffenheim tested Bayern for a brief spell despite having a man down.
In an ideal scenario, the Bavarian faithful would like to see a strong performance from Die Roten on Wednesday to wrestle back the momentum they showed in Hinrunde. A good performance against RB Leipzig will set the tone for the rest of the season.
Bayern have delivered convincing performances against RB Leipzig this season. They have won 11-1 on aggregate across two Bundesliga clashes against Leipzig. Previous head-to-head record and form go out of the window for cup games, so the clash at Allianz Arena will be much tighter than the league games between the two sides.
