Bayern Munich stars had a mixed World Cup campaign earlier this summer. The biggest disappointment was for the club’s German players, who were knocked out of the competition against Paraguay in the round of 32. It was a big upset, which eventually forced changes at the DFB.
The early elimination of Germany saw several Bayern Munich players come under intense criticism. Former Bayern captain Philipp Lahm was critical of Aleksandar Pavlovic as he struggled in the center of the park for Germany. It was Pavlovic’s first big tournament with Germany as he missed the Euros two years ago due to injury.
Pavlovic has been brilliant for Bayern ever since breaking into the first team. He is currently one of the most promising midfielders in Europe. The 22-year-old displaced Leon Goretzka from the starting XI to become the first-choice midfield partner for Joshua Kimmich at Bayern last season.
While the World Cup was far from ideal for Pavlovic, he is eager to take the next step in his development at Bayern next season. In an interview with the club’s media this week, Aleksandar Pavlovic admitted that he wants to play with more courage for Bayern in the upcoming campaign.
"I want to play with courage. I want everyone to see that I'm afraid of nothing and no one, and to show the world what I'm capable of. I want to control the game, make it my own, and project composure and authority. I want to bring my teammates into the game and work tirelessly for the team."Aleksandar Pavlovic
Pavlovic is set to start the season as the first-choice midfielder for Bayern. The 22-year-old has looked sharp in the pre-season games and looks set to get more game time next season, provided he stays injury-free.
Pavlovic can cement his place as one of the best midfielders in Europe
Since breaking into the first team in 2023, Pavlovic has steadily established himself as a key player for the first team. He has become a very important player for Vincent Kompany, but there is still scope for improvement in his game.
The German midfielder can become much more expansive with his passing and improve the chance creation rate from a deeper role in the center of the park. By polishing the rough edges of his game and helping Bayern go deeper in the Champions League, Pavlovic can establish himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe.
Pavlovic will face competition from Tom Bischof for the number six role. Kompany is planning to deploy Bischof in midfield next season. Bischof played as a left-back for Die Roten on several occasions last season, but the arrival of Nathaniel Brown will free up Bischof to play in the center of the park.
Pavlovic has done well for Die Roten, but playing with more courage and stamping his authority in the games next season will ensure he becomes main man in midfield for the Bavarian club.
