For the last few years, one of the biggest complaints from Bayern fans has been the lack of squad depth and solid recruiting in the summer. Compared to other top teams in Europe, it's almost laughable how much more squad depth they have, which has been a main factor for the teams that have won the Champions League in recent seasons.
Bayern will surely do more recruiting next summer; however, believe it or not, there are still some players in the squad who are surplus players that have become outcasts that Bayern will have to get rid of first, and they are still hoping to offload one in particular, one they failed to offload in recent summers.
As being reported by Sport Bild (via TransferNewsLive on X), Bayern Munich are still looking to offload Sacha Boey in January, and are hoping to get a fee of around €30 million for the defender. Bayern tried to offload the 26-year-old in the summer but failed to find any suitors, but are hoping their luck will change in the January window.
Bayern Munich looking to finally offload Boey in January after failed summer move
Boey arrived at Bayern in January of 2024 from Galatasaray in a deal worth €30 million and has been pretty much a non-factor at the club since his arrival. He's made just 39 appearances in his two-and-half seasons, with his signing still confusing fans to this day.
He arrived when Thomas Tuchel was still the manager, so many view him as a signing Tuchel requested; however, he barely featured under the German manager, leading many to point to him as a signing made by the board more than the manager. He's somehow managed to make 37 appearances under Vincent Kompany; however, despite that, he is still not in the manager's plans whatsoever.
He made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in Bayern's 6-1 hammering of RB Leipzig, coming on in the 77th minute.
Where the Frenchman will end up should he leave remains unknown; however, a return to Galatasaray would be the most obvious. He spent the second half of last season on loan at the Turkish club, and at the moment they seem to be the only club showing interest in the right-back. He's currently valued at around €7 million, so how exactly Bayern will get €30 million for him is anyone's guess, but we saw Turkish clubs splashing the cash in the summer, so Galatasaray could open their checkbook in January to bring Boey back where he found his best form as a player.
