Injury gods strike again
Last Saturday against Hamburg, despite the comfortable 5-0 victory, alarm bells rung when Raphael Guerreiro left the field due to an abdominal muscle injury suffered just 18 minutes after he had replaced Dayot Upamecano at the start of the second half.
With the veteran Portuguese defender joining Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito on the injury list, it meant that Bayern were now without a naturally left-footed option for the left-back role and that the sole choice to start at left back against Chelsea would be Josip Stanisic.
As fate would have it, on Wednesday, against Chelsea Stanisic had his night cut short by injury just six minutes into the second half. It does look like he will be on the sidelines for long time. It is a massive blow since Stanisic is crucial part of Bayern's setup. At this point in time, it feels as if a flight over the Bermuda Triangle might be safer than playing as a left-back for the German Champions. Considering how thin the squad is currently, unless some sort of fair-usage deal can be brokered between the injury gods and the club, the season is once again at the risk of getting affected negatively due to injuries.
