Star players rose to the occasion for the reigning Bundesliga Champions

Harry Kane and Michael Olise were menacing in attack during the opening 45-minute period, whilst Joshua Kimmich was dictating the tempo of the game from midfield. Ironically, Dortmund avoided being put to the sword inside 45 minutes as Bayern led only 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, Dortmund were a much improved team as they enjoyed 53% ball possession and Bayern seemingly struggled for a response until Michael Olise charged in fully stretched to force Jobe Bellingham’s attempted clearance over the line to make it 2-0 in the 79th minute. Kane, Olise and Kimmich truly lived up to their star billing under trying circumstances with meaningful contributions both on and off the ball.
