On Saturday evening, Bayern Munich overcame visitors Freiburg by a score of 6-2 at the Allianz Arena. The match itself wasn’t as easy as the final result would suggest.

After an ice-cold start, Bayern found themselves trailing 0-2 inside the opening 20 minutes. However, the Bavarian giants eventually warmed to the task and levelled the score before the half-time interval with a goal apiece from Lennart Karl and Michael Olise.

The second half was all Bayern. Dayot Upamecano, Harry Kane, and substitute Nicolas Jackson each scored before Michael Olise completed his brace to round off a good evening for the defending Bundesliga champions.

Let’s take a look at some interesting takeaways from a game in which Bayern showed immense fortitude to overcome an early two-goal deficit.

Lennart Karl is the real deal

With Bayern trailing 0-2, Lennart Karl was the one to spark the comeback with a moment of brilliance. In the 22nd minute, the 17-year-old attacker raced into the box and took, in stride, a fizzed pass from Michael Olise by controlling with his stronger left foot before finishing with his right.

Soon after scoring, Karl was seen urging on his teammates to get the job done. There has been a lot of hype over Karl’s potential and on Saturday he not only further unlocked that potential, but also displayed qualities of a leader as well.

His superb strike and subsequent encouragement provided the necessary impetus for victory. Unfortunately, Karl took a knock in the 70th minute, which resulted in him having to make way for Nicolas Jackson, but in this sort of form, if he is declared fit on Wednesday, fans can expect him to be in the starting XI.
