Unimpressive showing from Nicolas Jackson
As previously stated, Vincent Kompany handed maiden Bundesliga starts to both 17-year-old Lennart Karl and Nicolas Jackson. Karl started on the right wing in place of Michael Olise. Somewhat surprisingly, it was Serge Gnabry who made way for the Senegalese striker. Jackson started in the number nine position with Harry Kane behind him as the number ten.
Neither Karl nor Jackson came close to stealing the show, and in the first half, the attack struggled noticeably with them in it. It was not surprising to see the pair being replaced by Gnabry and Olise just after the hour mark. However, the German teenager had a moment to remember as he registered his first assist in the Bundesliga.
Meanwhile, Jackson struggled to link up with teammates in attack and to get free of his marker. Based on this showing it would appear that he is still figuring out the system.
