Killer instinct was mysteriously missing against Frankfurt
In the first half against Frankfurt, Bayern edged the visitors in possession 54% to 46%, outshot them 11-2 and took a deserved 2-0 lead into the interval.
In the second half, possibly with one eye on the upcoming Der Klassiker clash at Signal Iduna Park, the Bavarian giants may have been guilty of taking their foot off the accelerator. The injury to Davies wouldn’t have helped Bayern’s cause, but even so it was disappointing to see Frankfurt benefit from 52% possession in the second half and register seven shots in the process. The (xG) for Bayern in the second half was a paltry 1.82 compared to 2.21 for the visitors.
Conclusion
In the grand scheme of things, Bayern got the three points on Saturday and with Dortmund only able to muster a 2-2 draw at Leipzig, they will be taking a healthy eight-point lead into Der Klassiker. Therefore, Kompany’s men will have significant room for error against Dortmund. However, with the right mindset and tactics, Die Roten should be able to leave Signal Iduna Park with a positive result in spite of all the injuries.
