Continued lack of mercy from the injury gods in 2026
With both Manuel Neuer and Konrad Laimer on the mend due to recent injuries, Bayern were dealt a cruel blow when Alphonso Davies had to be substituted by Hiroki Ito just five minutes into the second half.
The 25-year-old Canadian has reportedly torn a muscle fibre at the back of his right thigh, and can be out of action for several weeks. Having only made his return to competitive action in December after suffering an ACL tear nine months earlier, the player and the team once again would need to be cautious in his rehabilitation.
Davies will be sorely missed when Bayern take on Dortmund on 28 February at Signal Iduna Park in this season’s second edition of Der Klassiker.
