Jonathan Tah still has to adapt at Bayern

Bayern may have enjoyed 72% possession and an XG of 2.44 compared to 0.77 for Boca, yet the manner in which the equalizer was conceded seemed all too hauntingly familiar. Boca striker-Miguel Merentiel, was played through, down the Bayern left side, from just inside the Bayern half, and sprinted in behind Jonathan Tah when Tah was seemingly positioned well enough to deny Merintiel the inside track.

Some may point to the fact that the opportunity arose because Bayern’s left-back Raphael Guerreiro was nowhere to be seen. However, the laboured manner in which Tah turned and then struggled to keep up with the Uruguayan should warrant concern from Vincent Kompany. Does Tah possess the necessary recovery speed to thrive in the high-line defensive system, or does the coach have to tweak the system while playing him alongside Josip Stanisic instead of Dayot Upamecano, or even when paired with Upamecano?
