On matchday eight of the ongoing Bundesliga season, Bayern Munich visited bottom-of-the-table VfL Bochum. After the midweek disappointment against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, an encounter against a team that had not won a game so far this season was just what the doctor ordered for Bayern. Kompany's men needed a morale-boosting victory.

Despite a shaky start, Rekordmeister eventually wore down the opposition and came away dominant 5-0 winners. Let us now take a look at key takeaways from Bayern's dominant win on Sunday.

Squad rotation by Vincent Kompany

With only one win in the last five games, changes were more than past due. To shake things up Vincent Kompany made three changes to the team that started in Barcelona on Wednesday. In attack, Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala started in place of Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller. Meanwhile, Konrad Laimer replaced Raphael Guerreiro in the right-back position.

Making his first start since sustaining a hip injury a few weeks ago, Musiala showed once again just how much of a difference-maker he is. During the hour-long stay on the pitch, Musiala was by far the best player on the pitch. The 21-year-old German international scored Bayern’s second goal with a rare headed effort and set up Harry Kane for the third goal before he was replaced by Thomas Muller. Coman played the entire match and scored his side’s fifth goal with a show of individual brilliance. Laimer also played the entire match and did a decent job in the right-back position.

Kompany's decision to make changes paid dividends on Sunday. The Belgian coach needs to use the entire squad to keep players fresh as Bayern are playing a game every three days.
