Bayern Munich suffered first disappointment of the summer transfer window this week as Anthony Gordon sealed a move to FC Barcelona. The former Newcastle United forward was Bayern's top target to strengthen their attack.
Die Roten had agreed on personal terms with Gordon. However, they were not keen on paying the fee in excess of €80 million that Newcastle United wanted for the English forward. Barcelona swooped in this week and quickly sealed the week. Gordon was unveiled as Barcelona’s new forward on Saturday.
The Bundesliga champions have to look at other targets to strengthen the attack. Die Roten want a forward who can compete with Luis Diaz on the left flank. The Colombian forward had a sensational debut season for Bayern, but there is no other naturally sided forward in the squad who can deputize Diaz.
Considering Bayern’s success with Premier League forwards over the last three summers, they are continuing to keep an eye on other forwards in England.
According to Merkur, Bayern are keeping a close eye on the situation of Eli Junior Kroupi from Bournemouth. The 19-year-old forward is coming off a sensational debut season in the Premier League.
Kroupi is more of a center forward or a second striker at Bournemouth. In his debut season for the Cherries, the French forward scored 13 goals in 33 Premier League games. He is quick and very good at holding the ball higher up the pitch. The French forward has quick feet and has different types of finishes in his locker.
Bayern Munich may not afford to sign Kroupi this summer
Bournemouth are reportedly not keen on losing their key players after qualifying for the Europa League. With Kroupi having several years on his contract, Bournemouth are in a strong position to rebuff interest from big clubs.
Bayern will have to pay a nine-figure fee to convince Bournemouth to part ways with the young French winger. They will have to wait until next summer to sign him for a reasonable fee.
From a position point of view, Kroupi is someone who can deputise for Harry Kane in the number nine position. With Kane still performing exceptionally well at the top level, it doesn’t make sense for Die Roten to pay a big fee for another center forward.
The next few days will give more clarity on Bayern’s targets in the attack after losing out on Gordon.
