Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on several attacking players in the transfer market who can strengthen their left flank next season. Luis Diaz has been sensational in his debut season for Bayern, but there is no player to back him up when he needs rest or gets injured.
The Bundesliga champions have identified Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon as their top summer transfer target. The English forward is open to exploring a move away from Tyneside, but Newcastle’s price tag of €85 million may prohibit a move to Bayern.
Die Roten are also keeping tabs on other wingers in Europe. According to Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Ajax winger Mika Godts is on Bayern’s radar. The 20-year-old forward is attracting interest from several big clubs after his impressive performances for the Dutch club. This report also insists that Bayern have a shortlist of three players for the attacking signing in the summer. Godts doesn’t feature on this list, but the Bavarian club considers him a good option.
Godts can be a smart signing for Bayern
The Belgian forward has been enjoying a phenomenal season with Ajax. He has been used on the left flank and in the number ten role. Godts’ numbers in the final third are impressive, managing 17 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.
There is obviously a caveat: the numbers in the Eredivisie may not be straightaway emulated in the Bundesliga and Champions League, but the youngster certainly has the potential to be a top player.
Godts may not get consistent playing time at Bayern next season, but he will certainly get the environment that will aid his development. Vincent Kompany has given opportunities to several young players this season. Lennart Karl has enjoyed a breakthrough season under the Belgian coach, which certainly suggests that a player like Godts can also excel in Bavaria.
From a financial perspective, Godts will be a better option than Gordon. The Belgian winger will not come cheap since his contract at Ajax expires in 2029, but he will certainly be cheaper than Gordon. However, Gordon is entering the peak of his career, so there is a good chance he will hit the ground running rather than someone like Godts.
Die Roten have a decision to make about what type of players they want to sign this summer. If they are looking to add depth to the squad, young talent will be a better way to go, as they will be cheaper and can be slowly integrated into the starting XI.
