Bayern Munich are close to achieving their big target for the winter transfer window, with Dayot Upamecano close to signing a new contract. The French defender has less than six months left on his contract. Considering his form under Vincent Kompany over the last 18 months, Bayern wanted to secure his future.

Even though Upamecano is close to signing a new deal, Bayern remain keen on signing a center-back in the summer. There is a good possibility that Die Roten may part ways with Kim Min-jae at the end of the season. The South Korean defender was attracting interest during the winter transfer window.

Bayern had identified Marc Guehi as a terrific market opportunity to strengthen the defense. The English defender was set to become a free agent at the end of the season. However, Manchester City moved swiftly and agreed a fee with Crystal Palace for a transfer midway through the campaign. The record Bundesliga champions are keeping tabs on other center-back options in the transfer market.

According to Sport1, Bayern are keeping a close eye on the situation of Inter Milan defender Yann Bisseck. The Bavarian club has not made contact with the German defender, but he remains one of the options for the summer. He will be an expensive option since his contract at Inter Milan expires in 2029.

Along with Bisseck, Bayern are also monitoring the situation of Luka Vuskovic. The Croatian defender is currently on loan at Hamburg SV from Tottenham Hotspur. He is expected to make a decision on his future in the summer after excelling in the Bundesliga.

Nico Schlotterbeck could become Bayern’s primary target

Along with Guehi, Bayern were also heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck. The German defender is deliberating over signing a new deal at Dortmund. His current deal expires in 2027, making him one of the most sought-after central defenders in the summer.

Die Roten may look at Schlotterbeck if they get a sizeable fee for Kim Min-jae. They will face competition from Real Madrid. The Spanish club has been linked with Schlotterbeck over the last few months.

The likes of Bisseck and Vuskovic are likely to be back-up options for Schlotterbeck if Bayern move ahead with plans to sign a central defender. A younger center-back would be a better option for Die Roten since they already have experience in this position in the form of Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, and Hiroki Ito.
