When it comes to Bayern Munich, one main criticism that many have, and rightfully so, is when it comes to the squad's depth. There is no arguing that Bayern have a squad filled with talent all over the pitch, however it is still incredibly thin in some areas, and that is what can make the difference between winning and losing.
When looking at the clubs that have won the Champions League in the last few seasons, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and PSG all did it due to the depth of the squad at the manager's disposal and being able to bring in top-class players when the starters aren't cutting it. It seems Bayern have finally realized this and are looking ahead to the January transfer window, and are hoping they can land a player they had their eyes on back during his early Bundesliga days.
As being reported by Sky Sports on X, Bayern Munich are lining up a potential January move for Barcelona's Dani Olmo, as they plan potential contingency plans amid outside interest in players like Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise. The Spaniard has somewhat fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona, leading to rumors of a possible exit, with Bayern hoping to put themselves in pole position to land the attacker.

Bayern have been linked with a move for Olmo in the past, mainly during his time at RB Leipzig, when he was a nightmare for Bayern to deal with. The Spaniard dropped a hat-trick against Bayern in the German Super Cup during the 23/24 season, and has a total of four goals and one assist against the Bavarian side. He racked up 29 goals and 34 assists in his time in the Bundesliga before departing for Barcelona in 2024, where he quickly became a key player in Hansi Flick's team.
However, Olmo has somewhat fallen out of favor this season with players like Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Fermin Lopez the preferred attackers. Olmo has only started three of the first eight games of the season, and with game time starting to fall, rumors of an exit are picking up, and that is where Bayern comes in.
The 28-year-old can play as a number nine, number 10, and on the left-wing, and that is where Olmo could be key for Bayern. Bringing in Olmo to play on the left-wing would take some of the weight off of Luis Díaz's shoulders as the only left winger in the squad, giving the Colombian a much-needed rest every now and then.
A move for the Spaniard wouldn't be cheap by any means, with a figure of around €70 million believed to be what it would take for Barcelona to sell the player, but for Bayern, it would be a €70 million they need to spend. After disappointments in the Champions League in back-to-back seasons, Bayern need to make that one signing to bring them over the hump and back to the top of the European mountain, and that is the kind of player Olmo is.
