Over the last few seasons, Bayern Munich have shown that they have a squad that is capable of winning the Champions League, but it is still missing just a few more small pieces. With clubs like PSG and Real Madrid, one aspect that helped them get their hands on the Champions League trophy was the incredible squad depth both teams had. Bayern's squad is good, but it is still lacking in depth, which, if the club hopes to get back to the top of the European mountain, they need to seriously consider adding a few more players to finally get over the hump.
Bayern have been linked with a number of players recently that would be great additions to the squad, and have recently been linked with another, who, on paper, would be an incredible addition to the squad, one that could finally help them get their hands back on the Champions League trophy.
As being reported by Sport (via Yahoo Sports), Bayern Munich have upped their interest in Barcelona defender Jules Kounde as they look to add defensive reinforcements to Vincent Kompany's squad in January. Kounde is appealing to Bayern because of his versatility, with him being able to play at both center-back and right-back.
Bayern Munich ready to move for outcast Barcelona defender
Bayern's backline has been solid so far this season, but adding a depth player like Kounde wouldn't hurt in the slightest. Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, and even Kim Min-jae have all been performing well this season, but adding Kounde to the squad would give Vincent Kompany the option to rotate his backline more, which would be a massive benefit for Bayern to keep their defenders fit.
Bringing in Kounde would also benefit Konrad Laimer as he could return back to his usual midfield role, while Kounde, who is a natural defender, could slot in at right-back, which would bring more stability down that side, with Kompany not having to rely on Laimer playing out of position at fullback.
Kounde brings loads of experience and a winning mentality from his time at Barcelona and with the French National Team, making him a great addition to a team that always has only one objective on its mind: to win.
Unfortunately for Bayern, Kounde hasn't shown any interest in leaving Barcelona at the moment; however, he has recently fallen down the pecking order under Hansi Flick, and for a player of his level, he surely won't be happy with a constant substitute role. The Frenchman is under contract until 2030 so it may be hard for Bayern to get a deal over the line, however, from the players perspective, joining a team like Bayern where he would be able to join with some of his French teammates, Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano, that may sweeten the pot for Kounde to consider making the switch should his situation at the Camp Nou not improve in the coming months.
