Bayern Munich international watch: Weekend round up
By Tom Vinall
There was plenty of international football this weekend, with games for a few Bayern Munich players’ teams included in that. Let’s take a look at how things went down for their teams.
To begin with, Joao Palhinha’s early season frustrations continued, as the midfielder was not included in the matchday squad for their Nations League trip to Poland. Roberto Martinez suggested it was due to fitness and that he could be involved against Scotland on Tuesday.
In his absence, Portugal recorded a 3-1 win over their Polish counterparts. This win leaves Portugal top of their group with nine points from their three games so far.
Despite a superb performance for his country last time out back in September, Adam Aznou was an unused sub for Morocco as they thumped Central African Republic 5-0 in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on Saturday. This win leaves Morocco top of their qualifying group with nine points from three games.
Harry Kane makes return from injury for England
Harry Kane made his return to the England national team in the Nations League. having missed Thursday’s defeat at home to Greece with the injury he picked up in the draw at Frankfurt. The Bayern Munich number nine played 67 minutes as the Three Lions got back to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Finland in Helsinki. This win leaves England second with nine points from four games.
Finally, Konrad Laimer started for Austria as they battered Norway 5-1 at home in the Nations League. The Bayern midfielder played 84 minutes before being withdrawn. This win leaves Austria joint-top of their group with seven points from four games.
Next up for Portugal is the aforementioned trip to Scotland on Tuesday night, 20:45 CEST. Next up for Morocco is another game against Central African Republic on Tuesday night, 21:00 CEST.
The international break is now over for Kane and Laimer, and both will return to Bayern to prepare for the game against VfB Stuttgart at the weekend.
