Bayern Munich went into the summer transfer window with a clear objective of strengthening the attack. They wanted to give Vincent Kompany one more option on the left flank since Luis Diaz was the only option in this position last summer.
Die Roten tried to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, but FC Barcelona ended up signing him. Bayern pivoted to a versatile forward after missing out on Gordon. The Bundesliga champions ended up signing Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven.
While there is less likelihood of signing another forward this summer, Bayern are keeping a close eye on the transfer market. According to L’Equipe (via GFFN), Bayern hold an interest in Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola. Arsenal and Liverpool have also been credited with concrete interest in the French winger.
Barcola has already rejected a contract proposal from Paris Saint-Germain. He is keen on leaving PSG this summer. The Champions League winners are also open to parting ways with him as his current deal expires in 2028. As per the report in L’Equipe, Barcola has already rejected a move to Chelsea as he weighs up his options this summer.
The 23-year-old forward made 49 appearances for PSG last season, but most of them came off the bench. He ended the season with 13 goals and 7 assists across all competitions. Barcola is looking to push for a move to get regular game time.
Bayern cannot afford to sign Barcola
Barcola would have been a terrific signing for Bayern, but they are currently not leading the race for him. As per reports in England, Liverpool have made Barcola their top target and are pushing to start negotiations with PSG.
Several reports in England have confirmed that PSG are looking for a fee close to €150 million for Barcola. The Bavarian club wouldn’t have gone anywhere near that number unless they had lost one of their star forwards.
There is a significant chance that Barcola ends up in the Premier League this summer. Meanwhile, Bayern are not expected to sign another forward unless they face an unexpected exit. Michael Olise is not going anywhere despite interest from Real Madrid. Al-Hilal have identified Luis Diaz as their dream target, but it will take an exorbitant bid for Bayern to consider, especially for a player who shone in their debut season.
Bayern are also expected to step up their efforts to extend the contract of Harry Kane. As things stand, Die Roten are not in dire need of signing a superstar or an expensive player to strengthen the attack.
