Bayern Munich are expected to be busy next summer to strengthen their full-back department. The Bundesliga champions expect to see Raphael Guerreiro leave next summer on a free transfer, while Sacha Boey is the leading candidate for sale in the next two transfer windows.

The Bavarian club is looking at several options in the market for the left-back position. The recent murmur in the German media suggests that Bayern have one Bundesliga full-back on their radar for the next summer transfer window.

According to Kicker and Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern have a concrete interest in Bayer Leverkusen left-back Alejandro Grimaldo. The Spanish left-back has two years left on his contract at Leverkusen. He was linked with a move back to Spain last summer, but he ended up staying.

Grimaldo excelled under Xabi Alonso as one of the best attacking full-backs in Europe. He excels in the final third, chipping in with goals and assists. The Spaniard currently has seven goals and four assists to his name in 15 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen this season. Grimaldo can also play further ahead in the attack as a winger, making him a tactical flexible player for any formation.

Bayer Leverkusen will make it difficult for Bayern to sign Grimaldo

Bayern may reach an agreement with Grimaldo for a summer transfer, but negotiating with Bayer Leverkusen will be an uphill battle. Leverkusen have adopted a tough stance on negotiations with Die Roten. They rejected several bids from Bayern for Jonathan Tah in 2024. Leverkusen were also adamant to get a significant fee to release Tah one month before his contract expired, as Bayern wanted him in the squad for the Club World Cup.

Bayer Leverkusen also preferred selling Florian Wirtz to Liverpool over Bayern last summer. Even though Grimaldo will have one year left on his contract at the end of the season, Bayer Leverkusen will make it difficult for Bayern to reach an agreement over a transfer fee. Grimaldo will strengthen Die Roten, but it is a very complex deal to pull off for the club.

For strengthening the full-back position, Bayern are also showing concrete interest in Feyenoord’s Givairo Read. According to Sky Sports in Germany, talks between the young right-back and Bayern are moving in the right direction.

Die Roten face competition from Premier League clubs for the signing of Read. The 19-year-old defender will come in as the backup for Konrad Laimer if Sacha Boey ends up leaving next summer.
