Bayern Munich have been successful with their summer transfer, even though they could have managed the timing in a much better way. The club chiefs have no plans to sign new players in January, but they are working on deals for the summer.
Along with signing stars, Bayern are also monitoring the market for young players. It does look like they have made their interest concrete in one of the top prospects from Brazil.
According to UOL in Brazil (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern have intensified contacts with Vasco forward Rayan and his representatives. The 19-year-old forward is open to joining Die Roten, while Vasco are awaiting an offer from the German club. Vasco reportedly want a fee closer to €50 million for the young forward.
Football transfers journalist Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed Bayern’s interest in Rayan. He has confirmed contacts between the player and Bayern, but Rayan is one of the several players on Die Roten’s list to strengthen the attack.
- @FabrizioRomano: 'I can confirm the Brazilian reports on Rayan. The 19 year-old Brazilian is on Bayern's shortlist. He's one of the players the club has been scouting and monitoring. Considering the transfer fee Vasco reportedly want for Rayan, Bayern are potentially considering him for the first team. The 19-year-old can play on the right flank and behind the striker. He has enjoyed a prolific season with Vasco, scoring 20 goals across all competitions.
Looking at Rayan’s stats, he certainly comes across as a forward with great productivity, but he may need some time to get accustomed to the Bundesliga. Since Bayern have adequate depth in attacking positions, Rayan can be afforded the time to adjust to the pace of the Bundesliga.
Bayern will have to sign a forward next summer
Bayern parted ways with three senior forwards in the summer- Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane, and Kingsley Coman. They signed Luis Diaz on a permanent deal, while Nicolas Jackson arrived on a loan deal from Chelsea. Lennart Karl has grabbed opportunities in the first team with both hands and established himself as a regular member of the matchday squad this season.
Max Eberl recently suggested that they are unlikely to make Jackson’s move permanent in the summer. In such a scenario, Bayern will need a forward who can deputise Harry Kane and also play on the flanks if needed.
Someone like Rayan might be too raw to be considered an option to be back up for Kane. If Die Roten sign the Brazilian forward, they would still need a backup number nine to add much-needed depth to the attack. Bayern may not spend heavily on forwards in the summer, but there will certainly be new faces in this department of the squad.
