Bayern Munich chiefs are working on trimming the squad for the new season after completing three signings this summer. The Bavarian club is not expected to sign any more players, as they believe the squad is well-built to compete on all fronts next season.
Die Roten’s notable sales for this summer have been Daniel Peretz and Alexander Nubel. Neither player spent last season at Bayern. Southampton exercised the option to buy in the loan to sign Peretz, while Nubel joined Besiktas after a productive three-year loan spell at VfB Stuttgart.
Rekordmeister are looking to part ways with Joao Palhinha, Bryan Zaragoza, and Sacha Boey on permanent deals before the end of the summer transfer window. These three players are not part of Bayern’s plans for next season.
Palhinha has been attracting interest from Aston Villa over the last few weeks. The Premier League club confirmed talks with Die Roten. However, it does look like negotiations have stalled. While talking to the media on Friday (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, admitted that Palhinha’s move to Aston Villa is off as things stand.

Villa decided to move for Palhinha after Amadou Onana suffered a serious knee injury while playing for Belgium at the World Cup. The Portuguese midfielder is open to joining Villa, according to various reports. However, Sky Sports in Germany have reported that Villa have offered a loan deal for Palhinha.
Bayern have no plans to loan out Palhinha this summer. They are looking for a permanent departure. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Bayern end up keeping Palhinha if there are no substantial offers. The Portuguese midfielder has admitted this summer that he is ready to fight for game time at Bayern.
Villa’s reluctance may allow other clubs to come in for Palhinha
Aston Villa are not the only Premier League club showing interest in the Portuguese midfielder. Newcastle United have also expressed a desire to sign Palhinha. The Tyneside club has missed out on their primary midfield target as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg decided to stay at Marseille. Newcastle have the cash to sign Palhinha this summer after raising close to £250 million by selling three senior players.
Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, and interest from Italian clubs have also been reported, but it is difficult to see these clubs meeting Bayern’s asking price for Palhinha.
As things stand, Palhinha has a better chance of staying at Bayern than leaving. However, the last two weeks of the transfer window may see a swift conclusion to his future in Bavaria.
