After the conclusion of their Club World Cup campaign, Bayern Munich can focus on squad building for the next season. Along with incomings, Bayern chiefs also need to define the future of fringe players. Daniel Peretz is one of the fringe players who have a decision to make regarding his future this summer.
Peretz was subject to strong interest from PSV Eindhoven earlier this summer. PSV and Bayern were in talks to thrash out a deal, but both sides couldn’t reach an agreement. The Dutch side is currently in talks with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Matej Kovar.
In the meantime, Genoa have come forward and started talks with Bayern to sign Peretz. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Italian club is holding concrete talks with Bayern and have already submitted one proposal to sign the Israeli goalkeeper. Genoa are looking to sign Peretz on a loan with an option to buy.
It remains to be seen whether Bayern are fine with doing a loan deal for Peretz. They rate the Israeli goalkeeper highly. He has done a good job whenever he has been called upon to replace Manuel Neuer in the goal. However, Peretz needs consistent playing time next season to take the next step in his development.
Bayern should look to find a club that can give Peretz an opportunity to play every week. The loan deal with an option to buy will suit all parties involved.
Bayern will not sign a replacement for Daniel Peretz
The Bundesliga champions have no plans to sign a replacement for Peretz this summer. They had strengthened the goalkeeping department by signing Jonas Urbig in January. Urbig has been number two behind Neuer ever since arriving in Bavaria, which pushed Peretz to number three in the pecking order.
Sven Ulreich is expected to sign a new one-year deal to stay at Bayern. He will serve as the number three goalkeeper in the squad next season. Neuer remains the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, while Urbig will serve as his deputy.
Manuel Neuer endured a lean patch last season. His performances were subject to intense criticism in Germany, but Bayern defended him and insisted that he remains their number one goalkeeper. Neuer recovered from a poor run of form, but it does look like it is a matter of when rather than if Urbig ends up becoming Die Roten’s number one goalkeeper. If not Urbig, there is also a case for Alexander Nubel. who has been excelling at VfB Stuttgart for the last two years.
