Bayern Munich have decided to strengthen the attack by signing Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart earlier this month. The Bundesliga champions agreed personal terms with the German forward. Woltemade reportedly rejected approaches from Napoli and Chelsea as he prefers joining Bayern.
With the deal stalling for Woltemade, Bayern are looking to add a top-quality winger to the squad. The Bundesliga champions have identified Luis Diaz as the top target to strengthen the left flank, but they have another exciting player on the list if a move for the Colombian winger fails to materialize.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Lyon winger Malick Fofana is Plan B for Bayern if they fail to sign Diaz. The 20-year-old forward enjoyed a terrific campaign with Lyon, scoring 11 goals across all competitions. Coincidentally, Fofana also features on the list of attacking targets at Liverpool. The Merseyside club may look to sign Fofana if they lose Diaz to Bayern.
Fofana would be a more long-term signing for Bayern than Diaz. He has the potential to become one of the best wingers in Europe. There are no doubts about the quality of Diaz, but a signing like Fofana will serve Bayern well in the long term. A deal to sign Fofana will be economically feasible for Die Roten than Diaz.
Bayern expected to make improved offer for Luis Diaz
The Bundesliga champions had one bid rejected for Diaz earlier this month. The Colombian forward is keen on leaving the Merseyside club and making a move to Munich. Die Roten are in talks with Liverpool to find an agreement for the transfer fee. Bayern will no longer face competition from FC Barcelona for Luis Diaz. The Spanish champions are close to completing a move for Marcus Rashford to strengthen the attack.
The next few weeks will give more clarity on how Bayern’s attack is shaping up for the new campaign. Rekordmeister have endured a difficult summer until now with multiple failures. The pressure is on Max Eberl and Christoph Freund to do significant business before the start of the new season.
Diaz will certainly help Bayern Munich, but they need one more attacking signing since Jamal Musiala is ruled out for several months. The Bundesliga champions may revisit the deal to sign Woltemade later in the transfer window. It will take a monumental transfer fee to convince Stuttgart to part ways with Woltemade late in the transfer window.
