The goal fest against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday further highlighted how good Bayern Munich has been in the final third. The forwards have done well for Die Roten this season under Vincent Kompany. However, Bayern need to strengthen this position to continue competing on all fronts.

The Bundesliga champions are keen on signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande is touted to be Bayern’s prime target, but his reported price in excess of €100 milllion makes him an unrealistic signing. Reports from England and Germany have confirmed that Bayern have turned their attention to signing Gordon.

According to the latest update from Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Gordon’s agent had talks with Bayern last week regarding a potential summer transfer. The Premier League club wants a fee close to €86 million for the English forward since he has a contract until 2030. Bayern Munich have no intention to pay this fee, but they are hoping to reach an agreement with the winger in the hope of reducing the transfer fee.

Gordon is reportedly open to exploring a move away from Newcastle United in the summer. The Tyneside club will not be qualifying for Europe next season, which may force them to listen to offers for their star players.

Gordon’s versatility will ensure Bayern will not need a backup striker

Bayern have already confirmed that Nicolas Jackson will be returning to Chelsea. Despite his decent performances in the Bavarian colours, Die Roten do not want to activate the option to buy the Senegalese forward for €65 million.

Gordon’s signing can help Bayern to strengthen two positions. He can deputize Diaz on the left flank. The 25-year-old can also play as a striker, as he has successfully done for Newcastle United this season. He can play in this position in games when Harry Kane is injured or rested.

Bayern have been recently linked with Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic on a free transfer in the summer. The signing of Gordon may ensure Bayern do not have to invest in a striker.

Considering how well Premier League players have done for Bayern in the last three years, Gordon has a great chance of succeeding in the Bundesliga. His versatility and relentlessness make him a good fit for Bayern. Everything boils down to how Die Roten can bring down the transfer fee and convince Newcastle to agree on a more reasonable fee.
