It is a big Champions League game in Norway on Tuesday as Bayern Munich are visiting to play against Viking. Vincent Kompany’s men arrived in the country on Tuesday.
It was the expected first question for Vincent Kompany. After Jonathan Tah shared his views on Tuesday’s clash against Viking, the press seemed to have only one question on their mind. Will Neuer play?
The Belgian didn’t want to grab headlines, and he quickly revealed that Neuer felt something after the game against Augsburg and couldn’t train over the last two days. He has been ruled out for the clash against Viking, as Kompany didn’t want to take any risks with his captain.

Kompany pleased with Urbig’s development at Bayern
Kicker reported yesterday that Jonas Urbig would initially play against the Norwegian league leaders. The young keeper was promised at least two games before the UEFA Nations League resumes.
After Neuer’s big error against Augsburg, the technical staff began to consider the mood of the 128-cap German international. Wouldn’t it be an added disappointment for the goalkeeper not to play against Viking? If he plays well at the Lyse Arena, maybe he will get the needed confidence after a difficult game against Augsburg.
But we learned from today’s press conference that Neuer had already felt something in his foot after the Augsburg game. It seems to have worsened. Gradually, the focus shifted to Jonas Urbig himself.
The Belgian coach insisted that Bayern had a perfect plan lined up when Urbig arrived from FC Köln in 2025. Kompany believes that it is a testament to Die Roten’s plan to give Urbig adequate game time over the last 18 months that he is currently starting games for Germany.
Kompany not worried about the prospect of his team playing on artificial grass
After the conference covered the main topic, Kompany shared his views on other topics, including Norwegian football and his tactics. Bayern had already faced a squad from the land of the fjords. Does Kompany see similarities between Bodø/Glimt and Viking, for example?
Kompany also discussed the ‘coach partnership’ at Viking. He recognizes many similarities from his time at Anderlecht, where he also had a coaching partner for the first team.
The Belgian coach is not concerned by the prospect of injuries for his players on Tuesday as the team will be playing on the artificial grass. Kompany believes that his players are in great physical condition and well prepared for the challenging playing conditions against Viking.
Kompany managed the delicate situation around Neuer brilliantly. Despite club's public backing and Kompany's comments, it does look like this could well be Neuer's last season at the club. His performances are likely to take a dip moving forward while Urbig continues to make a strong case for a place in the starting XI.
