Three days after Bayern’s remarkable 3-3 draw in Stavanger against Viking, Kompany and Eberl discussed some frequently asked questions. Conclusion: Neuer and Kane ‘cases’ are not yet ‘definitely’ settled at Bayern Munich.

The much-discussed senior goalkeeper, after his error against Augsburg, missed the game against Viking due to a foot injury. Jonas Urbig, his likely successor, conceded three goals against Viking. But the former 1. FC Köln goalkeeper couldn’t be blamed too much for all three goals.

Kompany refuses to talk about the specifics of Manuel Neuer's injury

Yet, the discussion about the number one role has gone nuclear. Several Bayern legends stated something about the discussion. Take Oliver Kahn in the SKY program Triple – der Hagedorn Fußballtalk.

Kahn believes that Neuer could have avoided the discussion by not making such a poor mistake against Augsburg. The Bayern great also had some sympathy for Neuer as he believes mistakes are bound to happen at the age of 40. Kahn related Neuer’s situation to the twilight of his career.

Kahn also insisted that it looks like Neuer’s retirement decision is no longer the goalkeeper’s decision and more that of the club, with Urbig waiting in the wings.

Obviously, the first question for Kompany was about Neuer. It is still not clear whether he or Urbig will play tomorrow evening. The Belgian coach insisted that a decision on Neuer’s participation will be taken on Friday if he trains with the squad. Kompany also refused to make any statement regarding the competition between Neuer and Urbig for the number one spot.

"I cannot discuss every talk show. I hope you will understand that. We ‘expected’ this situation between Jonas and Manuel. It is part of the process. Discussing the number one is good, in a way. But we stick to our own plan."

Eberl: there is nothing to announce yet about new Kane singing

The other main topic discussed during the ‘Konferenz’ was the rumors about Kane and his extended contract. Several -verified- sports media outlets reported that the striker had signed an extension through 2029.

Max Eberl insisted that there is no announcement to make regarding Kane's new contract, but talks are moving in the right direction.

Clear the air soon

Obviously, we could not have expected the ‘real news’ to be announced by Kompany and Eberl. But Bayern fans are being kept in a state of great uncertainty. The question is not only whether Neuer will play, but whether he’ll still be chosen as number one. The question is not only whether Kane and Olise will extend their contracts, but whether they want to.

For the fans, there must be more clarity about their heroes. Neuer, Urbig, Kane, and Olise are important figures.

Clear the air soon, not only for us but also -especially- for them.  You can watch the entire press conference below.
