It has been a tedious summer transfer window for Bayern Munich. They moved in quickly to sign Jonathan Tah once Eric Dier expressed his desire to leave Bayern. After getting Tah over the line before the Club World Cup, Bayern have failed to get things over the line for multiple players, including their top target, Florian Wirtz.

The consequences of the poor transfer window have led to intense scrutiny on the work of Max Eberl and Christoph Freund. Both executives are reportedly facing uncertain futures as Bayern could look for a structural overhaul after the summer window.

In Freund’s situation, there have been suggestions in German media about interest from Red Bull Group. Freund moved to Bayern a couple of years ago after doing a fine job at RB Salzburg. He is still rated very highly by Red Bull.

As per AZ, Bayern have no plans to part ways with Freund this summer. The club rates him highly, and he is also liked by the senior squad. Bayern also hold Freund in high esteem for his eye for young talent. As things stand, Freund is expected to stay in Munich this summer and potentially beyond the transfer window.

August- defining month for Eberl and Freund

The upcoming six days are crucial for Eberl and Freund to change the narrative around Bayern’s summer transfer window. The squad needs two attacking players who can hit the ground running. Die Roten are pursuing a move for Liverpool’s Luis Diaz. Both executives need to make sure they get Diaz quickly and for a feasible transfer fee. The club CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, and President Herbert Hainer will also support Eberl and Freund in negotiations.

Apart from Diaz, Freund also needs to help Bayern in breaking the deadlock with VfB Stuttgart for Nick Woltemade. The German forward is eager to join the Bavarian club, but Stuttgart have been very reluctant to open talks regarding a transfer. Die Roten had two bids rejected for the German forward.

Freund and Eberl need to make sure that the transfer business for Bayern is done and dusted before the start of the season. They cannot afford to have a busy deadline day as it highlights the club’s poor planning for the transfer window.

Apart from getting key transfer deals over the line, Freund also has to silence the critics by improving the pathway to the first team for the young players coming from the academy.
