Bayern Munich continued their fine run of form on Tuesday by recording 16th consecutive win since the start of the season. The win on Tuesday is extra special for Bayern since it came away at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Die Roten had beaten defending European champions by playing with ten men in the second half as Luis Diaz was sent off just before the half-time whistle after a rash tackle against Achraf Hakimi.

Vincent Kompany had no selection headache for the game against PSG. Josip Stanisic slotted in the left-back position, while the attacking quartet of Harry Kane, Serge Gnabry, Luis Diaz, and Michael Olise started at Parc des Princes.

Bayern started the game on the front foot like they have done in most games this season. They pressed aggressively from the word go and created chances at will. Die Roten silenced the stadium by opening the scoring in the fourth minute. A clever bit of flick from Serge Gnabry had set up a big chance for Olise. The French winger’s shot was saved, but Luis Diaz pounced on the loose ball and hammered it past the goalkeeper.

The visitors continued to pile on the pressure after getting the first goal. Aleksandar Pavlovic had a venomous long-range effort deflected away from the goal in the 16th minute. PSG were not able to cope with the intensity of Die Roten in and out of possession.

The hosts had the ball in the back of the net through Ousmane Dembele in the 20th minute, but the French forward was marginally offside.

A fast break in the 30th minute saw Kane and Diaz combine to set up an opportunity for Gnabry from the edge of the box. The German winger hit the woodwork, giving PSG a reprieve for a few more minutes. Bayern deservedly got their second goal a minute later as Diaz robbed the ball from Marquinhos at the edge of the box and deposited it in the net.

Bayern were running havoc as they had a couple of great chances before the half-time to seal the three points. However, the flow of the game took a drastic turn when Luis Diaz was sent off for a poor challenge on Achraf Hakimi. The Colombian had a yellow card converted into a red card after VAR’s intervention.

Bayern showed immense grit and composure in the second half

After having the advantage of an extra player, PSG dominated possession in the second half. Bayern defended bravely and calmly, limiting the hosts to a very few chances. The hosts eventually got a goal through Joao Neves in the 74th minute after a bit of miscommunication between Dayot Upamecano and Konrad Laimer in the defense.

Manuel Neuer stepped up for Die Roten in the second half and made eight saves in the second half. The Bavarian club saw out the final 17 minutes and added time of five minutes to get the crucial three points. It was a statement performance from Bayern. Kompany’s men showed that they have the resilience to dig deep to get results, along with having the flair to blow teams away.
