Bayern Munich are not expected to be busy in the final few days of the winter transfer window. The defending Bundesliga champions are planning to strengthen the squad in the summer since the long-term targets will be available at the end of the season.

The Bavarian club has focused on extending contract renewals of key players in the squad. Serge Gnabry and Konrad Laimer are closing on new deals. Both players are expected to sign their respective contracts in the coming weeks.

The primary focus for Bayern has been securing the future of Dayot Upamecano. The French defender has entered the final six months of his current deal. There has been growing optimism at Die Roten in early January that Upamecano will soon sign a new deal. However, the French defender is yet to give the final nod to seal the deal.

According to Sport1, Bayern are getting frustrated with the delay in concluding the contract talks with Upamecano. The Bavarian club has made significant concessions on all fronts to meet the French defender’s demands.

Bayern have stretched their limits to make a compelling financial offer to Upamecano. The former RB Leipzig defender will reportedly have a release clause inserted in his contract. Moreover, the sporting project at Bayern is also attractive for the defender, as Vincent Kompany has managed to get the best out of him.

Bayern have not set a deadline for Upamecano

Despite growing frustration behind the scenes at Bayern, the club hierarchy has not set a deadline for the French defender to give a final yes to a contract extension.

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern have no plans to improve their contract offer. It does look like Die Roten believe this is the best offer they can make without disturbing their wage package.

Bayern will ideally want a final answer from Upamecano in the coming weeks so that they can start making plans for the summer transfer window. The Bavarian club has already lost a key target in Marc Guehi to Manchester City a few days ago. The English defender had held talks with Bayern this season regarding a free transfer in the summer, but Manchester City managed to sign him in January.

The defending Bundesliga champions have other targets for defense, but they first need clarity from Upamecano to accordingly allocate funds accordingly for other positions in the squad.

As things stand, with Real Madrid cooling interest, Upamecano has everything that he needs from a new contract at Bayern.
