Bayern Munich and Vincent Kompany have been garnering plaudits for the exceptional start to the season. The Bavarian club has won all of their 11 games across all competitions. The matchday seven of the Bundesliga was more special as Bayern hosted arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Kompany’s men managed to clinch a victory in Der Klassiker. With the clash at Allianz Arena dubbed as the biggest game of matchday seven in the Bundesliga, the Bavarian faithful also used it to protest regarding a key issue lingering at Bayern over the last few weeks.

Jerome Boateng announced his retirement from football a few days ago. He has been spotted training at Sabner Strasse before he decided to quit football. The former German international is looking to get into coaching. Vincent Kompany previously insisted that Boateng would be allowed to do an internship, considering his long ties with the club.

The Bavarian faithful didn’t like these comments from Kompany and want Bayern to have no ties with Boateng. The German defender was found guilty of domestic violence against his former girlfriend. Boateng was given a suspended fine and a warning last year by the Munich district court after being found guilty of premeditated bodily harm.

Bayern fans had started a petition against the club’s decision to give Boateng an opportunity for a coaching internship. As per Sky News, it had 2200 signatures by Friday.

In the Der Klassiker, the Sudkurve had a big tifo saying “Whoever gives the perpetrator space bears the guilt.” Boateng had previously insisted that his former Manchester City teammate Kompany had already agreed on a coaching internship, but the start date has not been decided. Bayern refused to comment amidst the comments from Sudkurve during Der Klassiker.

Bayern fans had adopted a similar approach when the club was thinking about signing Boateng two years ago under Thomas Tuchel.

Kompany responds to fan protests

Courtesy of the protests during Der Klassiker, Kompany was asked about it during the post-match press conference. The Belgian coach didn’t answer the issue directly but suggested that Boateng would just get to watch three training sessions. He also insisted that it is not a big topic of concern.

Bayern should have cut ties with Boateng a long time ago. Considering the club champions themselves for values, it is a damning scenario where they are considering associating with Boateng for the second time in two years. The Bavarian faithful will continue to protest if the club ends up giving Boateng a platform to start his coaching career.
