Apart from investing in a couple of young players, Bayern Munich didn’t do significant business on new signings in January. The Bavarian club did negotiate a notable departure by agreeing a deal with Tottenham Hotspur for Mathys Tel. The French forward has left Bayern on loan, but Spurs have an option to sign him permanently in the summer.
Tel had a slow start to life in the Premier League, but he has shown flashes of brilliance. Spurs are reportedly pleased with Tel's performances. They paid a significant loan fee to sign the French forward and plan to sign him permanently in the summer.
Bayern had reportedly inserted the option to buy worth €60 million. However, according to Give Me Sport, Spurs will look to negotiate the option to buy for Tel at the end of the season. The North London side wants to sign Tel for a fee closer to €35 million. It remains to be seen if Bayern are open to negotiating the option to buy.
Spurs and Bayern have a good relationship since they have been involved in three transfer deals over the last two seasons. The Premier League side will look to leverage this relationship to get a more favourable deal for Tel.
Bayern are certain to sell Tel in the summer
It looks like Bayern are certain about selling Mathys Tel in the summer. Vincent Kompany has praised Tel’s talent consistently throughout the season, but the praise has not translated into meaningful game time.
Considering Bayern’s pursuit of adding new attacking players to the squad, Tel will struggle to get adequate playing time in Munich next season. The French forward has been eager to become a key player for Die Roten since arriving from Rennes three years ago, but at this stage of his career, he needs regular game time.
Bayern are looking to strengthen the attack by signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The transfer fee generated from Tel’s exit will help Die Roten to facilitate Wirtz’s transfer. The German star is attracting interest from several big clubs.
Die Roten are also looking to add another winger to the squad in the summer. Along with Mathys Tel, Kingsley Coman is also expected to leave Munich at the end of the season. The record champions also want to listen to offers for Serge Gnabry, but the former Arsenal forward has no plans to leave the Bavarian club.
