Bayern Munich chiefs have enjoyed a terrific start to 2026 in terms of executing the long-term plans for the squad. They managed to extend the contract of Dayot Upamecano. The French defender was set to become a free agent in the summer. Bayern had to overcome complex negotiations to secure the future of Upamecano.

Die Roten also extended Serge Gnabry's contract. The German forward was eager to stay in Munich. His good form this season ensured Bayern offered him a new contract. The negotiations with Gnabry were relatively easier than they were with Upamecano.

Harry Kane and Konrad Laimer are next in line for contract talks at Bayern. The English forward has already held initial talks with Die Roten. Meanwhile, talks with Laimer seems to have hit an impasse as per the latest update from Germany.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, talks between Laimer and Bayern over a new deal have stalled. The Austrian is currently earning a gross salary of over €10 million. Sky is reporting that Laimer wants a gross salary closer to €15 million. Bayern are currently not planning to pay that figure, which has led to an impasse.

Despite talks stalling between both parties, the relationship between Bayern and Laimer’s agents remains healthy. It does look like talks can eventually be resumed, and a positive conclusion could be reached at some point later this year.

Laimer’s current deal at Bayern expires in 2027. The former RB Leipzig midfielder has publicly admitted that he would like to stay in Munich beyond his current deal. It does look like contract negotiations will not be straightforward, even though the player wants to stay.

Bayern cannot sell Laimer in the summer

In a normal scenario, Bayern would have explored a departure for a player with one year left on his contract. However, Die Roten cannot follow the same approach for Laimer.

The Austrian has been in sublime form under Vincent Kompany over the last 18 months. He has excelled in the right-back position, which is not his preferred position. Laimer has managed to establish himself as one of the best full-backs in Europe. Moreover, his work rate out of possession helps Die Roten to play Kompany’s high-intensity football.

Moreover, Bayern need to sign a new right-back this summer, along with keeping Laimer. The Austrian is the first-choice right-back. Die Roten need to sign a backup for him. In such a situation, Die Roten cannot afford to lose Laimer.

Considering the fact that the relationship between all parties is cordial, there is still a very good chance that Laimer will sign a new contract sooner rather than later.
