Bayern Munich have won a dozen games since the start of the season across all competitions. They are yet to drop a point in the Bundesliga and Champions League, occupying top spots in both competitions. Bayern also won their first-round clash of the DFB Pokal and won the DFL Super Cup at the start of the season.

After clinching a 4-0 win against Club Brugge on matchday three of the Champions League, Bayern turn their attention towards the Bundesliga game away at Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday. Gladbach are in atrocious form as they sit at the bottom of the Bundesliga points table, but they have been a bogey team for Die Roten in the recent past.

Bayern will be travelling away for the midweek DFB Pokal clash against FC Koln. Die Roten have not won the DFB Pokal in the last few years, which adds more importance to this trophy this season. Die Roten are planning to make a significant change to the starting XI against Gladbach as part of the preparation for the DFB Pokal game.

According to Bild, Bayern are planning to start Jonas Urbig in the goal against Gladbach. They want to give the young goalkeeper some game time before the DFB Pokal clash. Manuel Neuer has started all games this season apart from the first round of the DFB Pokal. It does look like Urbig is Bayern’s DFB Pokal goalkeeper for this season.

Since Bayern have to look at the bigger picture in the goalkeeping position since Neuer is not getting any young, they must start giving adequate game time to Urbig. The young goalkeeper shone last season when Neuer was out injured. Giving Urbig an opportunity against Gladbach, Die Roten are making sure that his growth doesn’t stall by just being a backup goalkeeper to Neuer.

Serge Gnabry set to return against Borussia Monchengladbach

Apart from Urbig, Bayern could also welcome Serge Gnabry back in the starting XI against Gladbach. The German forward has sat out the last two games due to a minor injury. He is likely to recover in time for matchday 8 of the Bundesliga.

Gnabry has been in tremendous form for Bayern this season, excelling in the number ten position behind Harry Kane. The 30-year-old is keen on getting a new deal from Die Roten as he is ready to take a pay cut. If Gnabry continues to excel on the pitch, there is a good chance Bayern will offer him a new contract. The next few months are crucial for him as he has eight months left on his current deal.
