Florian Wirtz is reportedly open to returning to Germany after just over one season in the Premier League, with Bayern Munich as the preferred destination.

Liverpool's attacking midfielder had a rough start in England, tallying just 17 goal contributions in 49 matches across all competitions. Wirtz even went 13 Premier League matches without a goal or assist last season.

The switch-up at the managerial position this season didn't necessarily help his situation either. Despite a promising preseason with new head coach Andoni Iraola, Wirtz has yet to find the back of the net after eight matches.

If things don't improve for Wirtz, he might search for a different path for his career. Bayern Munich reportedly has a growing belief that the German star would leave Anfield and return to his home country.

Fraser Fletcher, an insider from TEAMtalk, said that Wirtz has endured a challenging period since his high-profile arrival at Anfield, and those familiar with the thinking inside the Allianz Arena believe he would be open to a return to the Bundesliga.

In 2025, Bayern Munich was close to signing Florian Wirtz to complete a dream pairing with Jamal Musiala, but Wirtz opted for Liverpool on a record-breaking fee for the Merseyside giant at that time.

However, Fletcher also noted that Liverpool might demand a "colossal" fee for their player and have no desire to cut their losses and sell.

They will continue to bet on Florian Wirtz to find the form that made him so magical at Bayer Leverkusen. The tie between the two sides runs until 2030.

Would Florian Wirtz be a right fit for Bayern Munich?

Bayern Munich will continue to monitor Wirtz's situation at Liverpool, although a transfer seems unlikely at the moment. There are more than enough players who can play as a No. 10 at Bayern Munich.

Jamal Musiala is obviously the main man when he's healthy. Ismael Saibari has also filled in well in the absence of Bambi, with two goals and two assists so far. Lennart Karl started behind Harry Kane against Viking. Nathaniel Brown and Michael Olise also had minutes at attacking midfielder.

Signing Florian Wirtz might also be out of the question for Bayern Munich's side for the time being, given the sheer number of options in Vincent Kompany's hands at the position.

Bayern has a more urgent need at left wing, finding a backup and long-term replacement for Luis Diaz. If Wirtz can reinvent himself as a competent left-winger, maybe we will see a potential reunion between Musiala and Wirtz.
