After a week in Asia, Bayern Munich players were given a rest over the weekend. The first team squad returned to training on Monday at Sabner Strasse. Bayern Munich will play a couple more friendly games before the DFL Supercup clash against Borussia Dortmund on August 22.
Vincent Kompany will have a much bigger squad for the last two friendly games. Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Ismael Saibari were spotted training with the first team on Monday. They had stayed in Munich last week to recover from their respective injuries.
Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl are still training individually. The German forwards are not expected to be fit for the game against Dortmund. Bayern are hopeful that they will be back by the time the new Bundesliga campaign begins later this month.
Bayern were also set to welcome the final batch of World Cup stars on Monday since their mandatory three-week break came to an end. However, the Bavarian club decided to give them an extended break as they recover from a gruelling period.
According to Kicker, Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Dayot Upamecano will report for fitness tests at Sabner Strasse. It remains to be seen if they will play any of the last two pre-season games, but likely to feature in the DFL Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund.
It is a sensible decision from Bayern since Kane, Olise, and Upamecano have played a lot of football over the last 12 months. Considering their importance to the team, it is crucial to have them fresh for the new season.
Kane set for talks with Bayern when he returns for pre-season training
Bayern have completed their transfer business for the summer, but they still have a significant task to complete when it comes to squad building on a long-term basis. The defending Bundesliga champions need to extend Kane’s contract as he enters the final year of the current deal.
The club hierarchy will hold talks with the English forward when he returns for training later this week. Kane is happy to stay in Munich, so talks over a new contract are likely to conclude quickly. Bayern are expected to offer Kane a contract extension until 2029. He is also expected to get a wage hike. It is thoroughly deserved, as he has been sensational for Die Roten since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 for €100 million.
The record Bundesliga champions would also like to extend Michael Olise’s contract after fending off interest from Real Madrid this summer.
