Bayern Munich continued their good start to the Bundesliga campaign with an emphatic 7-0 win against Union Berlin on Friday evening. They will go into the international break with an unbeaten start to the domestic campaign after four games.
It was a convincing performance from the defending champions on Friday evening. One player who couldn’t contribute to this victory was Konrad Laimer. Bayern announced before the kick-off that Laimer would miss this game due to an adductor injury.
The OFB, Austria’s football governing body, confirmed that Laimer is expected to sit out the first two games of the international break. Laimer is expected to link up with the national team rather than stay in Sabner Strasse. He is expected to be fit for the third and fourth games of the international break.
Vincent Kompany decided to deploy Josip Stanisic at right-back. The Croatian defender delivered a satisfactory performance and helped Die Roten keep a clean sheet on Friday.
Bayern are well covered in the right-back position
The Bavarian club does not have to worry too much about Laimer’s injury. First of all, it is a minor injury so the recovery will be quick. Die Roten would have preferred Laimer to utilise the entire international break for recovery, but it is understandable from the player’s perspective to play for the national team at every possible opportunity.
Bayern will hope there are no setbacks in recovery for Laimer during the international break. For now, Stanisic is a capable deputy of Laimer in this position. The Croatian is not as adventurous as Laimer in the final third, but he can certainly deliver a 7/10 performance week in week out.
Apart from Stanisic, Joshua Kimmich can also play in the right-back position if needed. The German international prefers playing in central midfield, but is more than capable of playing on the right side of the back four.
Sacha Boey is also an option for the right-back position since he will be staying at the club at least until January. Bayern wanted to part ways with Boey in the summer, but concrete offers never materialised. The French defender made a strong impression during pre-season. He is expected to be integrated back in the team since transfer windows across all countries are now closed. There is still an expectation that Boey will leave Die Roten in the winter transfer window.
Boey may not get adequate game time during Hinrunde, but he certainly remains an option if there are several injuries in the right-back position.
