Bayern Munich have not focused on signing another defender since the arrival of Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer in June. Tah replaced Eric Dier in the squad at Bayern. The German defender has been on the club’s radar for more than 12 months as they tried to sign him last summer, but couldn’t reach an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen.
Tah has gone straight into the starting XI, partnering Dayot Upamecano in the central defense. Bayern are well covered in this position with Kim Min-jae and Hiroki Ito as other central defenders in the squad. Josip Stanisic can also play in the central defense if needed.
With several options in the heart of defense, Bayern are not actively looking for a central defender. This stance could change if one center-back leaves before the end of the window. Kim Min-jae has been a prime candidate for departure ever since the end of last season.
The South Korean defender was also reportedly weighing up a future at the end of the season. Juventus were linked with a move for Kim Min-jae, but the most concrete interest has come from Al-Nassr. Earlier this week, Foot Mercato in France reported that talks between Kim Min-jae and the Saudi Arabian club were ongoing.
However, Sky Sports in Germany has reported that sources close to Kim Min-jae have adamantly squashed the reports linking him to Al-Nassr. The former Napoli defender is eager to reclaim his spot in the starting XI and continue to perform well for the Bavarian club.
Bayern remain open to listening to offers for Kim Min-jae
Even though Kim Min-jae is eager to stay in Munich, the same cannot be said about Bayern’s stance on the defender. The Bundesliga champions remain open to listening to offers for the former Napoli center-back.
Kim Min-jae enjoyed a successful first half of last season, but his form tailed off during Ruckrunde. The dip in form was largely due to an Achilles problem. The South Korean defender also had a mixed debut campaign. The lack of consistency over the last two seasons has potentially convinced Bayern to listen to offers for him.
Bayern will not actively look to part ways with the South Korean defender. However, his situation is certainly one to watch in the coming weeks. As things stand, Tah and Upamecano are expected to start in the first competitive game of the season.
