Bayern Munich are focusing on departures at this stage of the summer transfer window. They secured their top two targets early in the summer. Bayern chiefs are now looking to balance the books by finding clubs to sign their fringe players.
Sacha Boey is one of the senior players who is not part of Bayern’s plans for next season. The French full-back struggled for game time in the first half of last season.
Boey left Bayern on loan to join Galatasaray at the end of the winter transfer window. The 25-year-old full-back excelled in Turkey. Bayern had inserted an option to buy permanently in the deal with Galatasaray. However, the Turkish club hasn’t activated this option yet. Boey has reported for pre-season training at Sabner Strasse since his future is not yet resolved.
According to Bild, Boey is attracting interest from mid-table Premier League sides. Die Roten are sticking to their €15 million asking price for the French full-back. The Bavarian club is yet to hold concrete talks with any Premier League club for the 25-year-old defender.
Bayern will push for a permanent sale for Boey
The move to Bayern hasn’t worked well for Boey. He became Bayern’s most expensive winter signing in 2024. However, injury problems and poor form has ensured Boey never showed his best in the Bavarian colours.
The arrival of Vincent Kompany at Bayern was expected to be a turning point since he wanted to sign Boey at Burnley. However, Boey never managed to stitch together a good run of performances under the Belgian coach. He eventually returned to Galatasaray on a loan deal earlier this year.
The return to Turkey has worked wonders for Boey. He made 17 appearances for Galatasaray in the second half of the season and scored two goals. In an ideal scenario, the Turkish club should have activated the option to buy, but it does look like they are looking at other options.
After a difficult spell at Bayern, Boey’s stock has been boosted after a good spell in Turkey. Bayern should make the most of this opportunity and look for a permanent transfer, which will suit all parties. Boey will struggle to get regular game time at Bayern if he decides to stay in Munich for next season.
The Bundesliga champions have no plan to sign a replacement for Boey as they are well covered in the right-back position. Konrad Laimer will start the season as first-choice right-back after signing a new deal, while Joshua Kimmich and Josip Stanisic are the other options in the squad for this position.
