Bayern Munich had a better start to the summer transfer window than last year. Even though they missed out on signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, Bayern have been proactive when it comes to moving on to other transfer targets.
The Bundesliga champions have done a major chunk of their summer transfer business before the start of July. They have completed deals for Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown to strengthen the attack and defense, respectively.
Along with swiftly concluding these two transfers, Bayern have managed to secure these two deals for a reasonable fee compared to the inflated transfer fees several clubs are paying for players this summer. The two new signings will combine cost Bayern €110 million, including bonuses.
According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), the supervisory board at Bayern is impressed with the way Max Eberl has conducted the transfer business this season. Eberl has been better at communicating with the board about negotiations for Saibari and Brown.
The former Gladbach sporting director has previously been under the scanner at Bayern for leading the transfer negotiations alone instead of keeping the supervisory board updated on the situation.
Eberl still has work to do to earn praise for this summer
It has been a great start to the summer for Bayern and Eberl. The next phase of the window is trickier for Eberl, as he has been tasked to get transfer fee for players who are not part of the club’s plans for next season.
Eberl has done well to get a decent fee for Alexander Nubel and Daniel Peretz. Nubel joined Besiktas this week, while Peretz completed a permanent move to Southampton after a successful loan spell with the English club.
Bayern are looking to part ways with Joao Palhinha, Bryan Zaragoza, and Sacha Boey. Die Roten are also open to listening to offers for Hiroki Ito and Kim Min-jae. The supervisory board would like to get a sizeable fee for these five players to fund the other arrivals in the squad this summer.
Eberl also needs successful outcomes for the contract negotiations with Harry Kane. The Bavarian club is also close to renewing the contract of Konrad Laimer.
With his contract expiring in 2027, Eberl needs a faultless summer transfer window to earn a new deal. He has started well this summer, but the tougher tasks lie ahead of him as he looks to trim the squad.
