Bayern Munich are working on contract extensions and summer transfers during the winter transfer window. They are close to completing contract extensions for Konrad Laimer and Serge Gnabry, while talks with Dayot Upamecano are progressing well

On the topic of summer transfers, Bayern Munich have stepped up their efforts to convince a Premier League star to make a move to Bavaria.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, has held further talks with Marc Guehi’s representatives. The English defender will leave Crystal Palace on a free transfer in the summer.

Guehi is attracting interest from several clubs across Europe. Manchester City are keen on signing the England international in January since they have several central defenders on the sidelines due to injuries. Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with a summer move for Guehi.

Die Roten will have to make a compelling pitch to convince Guehi to leave the Premier League. Bayern had successfully managed to sign a player from the Premier League in the last three transfer windows- Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz. All three players have excelled in the Bavarian colours, which will potentially help Bayern to convince Guehi about a summer transfer. Moreover, Bayern are competing on all fronts under Vincent Kompany, which will give Guehi the opportunity to win more silverware.

Do Bayern want Guehi irrespective of the outcome of contract talks with Upamecano?

Bayern have been prioritizing the contract extension of Upamecano over signing a new center-back. However, it does look like they want to sign Guehi irrespective of what happens with the French defender.

It is an attractive opportunity for Bayern since Guehi is entering the peak of his career. He can replace Kim Min-jae in the squad. The South Korean defender is subject to interest from several clubs in January, but he is not planning to leave Bayern midway through the season. However, it does look certain that the former Napoli defender will be on the move at the end of the season.

Bayern will significantly bolster their defense if they manage to see off competition for Guehi. In the long run, he can form a very strong center-back partnership with Upamecano. Die Roten also have interest in Nico Schlotterbeck, but he will cost a fortune since he currently has 18 months left on his contract. One thing is certain: Bayern will end up signing a new central defender in the summer.
